Just last week I arrived at a sales appointment. I was invited to come and do a presentation, have a meeting with some sales leaders about our company and share how we help them, and I got there 20 minutes early. She was a little bit worried. She was like, “Oh my goodness, am I late? Did we schedule it for earlier?” “No.”

But with traffic, I was coming from the east and she was way in the west. I said to her “Never mind. I would rather be here 20 minutes early than 20 minutes late. And I’m happy to sit out in the lobby and wait for you rather than you sit in your office waiting for me.”

Show up to meetings on time or early, if possible. That shows respect for your prospect.

You also want to end on time. If you’ve been given 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 minutes for a meeting, you need to stay within that allotted time. Don’t go over. Respect their time.

Now, what you can do is if during that meeting they’re really enjoying it. You see that there’s a bond, there’s connection, there’s rapport. They’re like what’s happening and they want the meeting to continue. You can score major points by taking a quick look at your watch and saying “I notice that we’re coming towards the end of our meeting time. I know we had set an hour and it’s coming up to an hour. Would you like us to schedule a follow-up meeting or are you good for us to continue for another 5 or 10 minutes? Ask them permission to continue or reschedule.

Respect them, respect their time and you’ll be on your way to closing more deals faster and easier than ever before.
